C21 - DMG to launch telenovela site at Mipcom - August 21th, 2008

International media company Dori Media Group has unveiled the launch date for its anticipated telenovela portal and its first project for the site, Amanda O, which it claims is the first worldwide telenovela to be produced specifically for the web.

DMG is set to launch a series of new media projects across internet and mobile in 2009/09.

Nadav Palti, president and CEO of Dori told C21 today that the first of the multi-platform initiatives would be Telenovela.com (working title), set to be launched on October 15 at Mipcom.

C21 has previously reported on the website that will exploit DMG's catalogue of over 4,000 hours of telenovelas, such as Rebelde Way and Sos Mi Vida, as well as exclusive features including trailers, memorable scenes, behind-the-scenes footage, interviews and out-takes.

Amanda O is the first project for the site, which has been designed solely for the internet. The daily drama will include interactive features and will be available on a series of partner websites such as Google and YouTube with the ability to expand the product onto mobile phones.

The telenovela stars Uruguayan actress Natalia Oreiro and Luciano Castro, the male actor in DMG's other telenovela Lalola.

In its financial results, published today, DMG posted an 83% rise in pre-tax profit and a 119% increase in revenues. The company's pretax profit for the six months to end June came in at US$4.3m compared with US$2.4m last year, on revenues that rose to US$27.8m from US$12.7m a year earlier.

The group said its results were bolstered by the strong revenue growth coming from its TV channel businesses, which generated revenue of $14m during the first half of 2008, up strongly from US$2.2m a year ago.

"We continue to explore innovative ways of producing content including the development of our online telenovelas and a commercial internet website which given the success of our YouTube partner channels, we expect to be a big hit with telenovela fans worldwide," added Palti.
