Daily Variety - 'Lalola' tops Martin Fierro TV awards; Comedy nabs nine nods from Argentine journos - July 3rd, 2008

BUENOS AIRES -- "Lalola" was the big winner at Wednesday's 38th Martin Fierro TV awards, taking home nine prizes.

The comedy, which airs on America TV, won the top Golden Martin Fierro trophy for overall program, and took lead actor and actress and supporting actor in a comedy, as well as nods for direction, screenplay and acting revelation.

"Lalola" is about a womanizer who is transformed into a woman and must endure the same kind of abuse he used to dole out.

It is produced by Argentina's Underground Contenidos and Israel-based Dori Media Group and been sold in tape and format versions to 52 territories over the past year, with Fox recently ordering a pilot.

The comedy helped America TV chalk up a total of 12 kudos.

Artear-Canal 13, which has climbed to first in the ratings over the past year to displace Telefe, topped the numbers with 13 awards, four of them for nursing telenovela "Mujeres de nadie" (Nobody's Women).

Other wins were for venerable variety show "ShowMatch" and sports program "Futbol de Primera" (First Division Football), as well as kiddie telenovela "Patito Feo" (Ugly Duckling).

Telefe trailed in third with eight wins, led by "Television por la identidad" (Television for Identity), a miniseries based on kidnappings during the country's 1976-83 military dictatorship.

The ceremony is organized by the Argentine Assn. of Television and Radio Journalists.
