BUENOS AIRES -- Israel's Dori Media Group (DMG) has teamed up with Mexico's Televisa for the worldwide distribution of "Patito Feo" (Ugly Duckling), a hit teen telenovela in Argentina.
Deal is for the Argentine version of "Duckling," about an 11-year-old girl who discovers it isn't always looks that make beauty.
Televisa is producing with Ideas del Sur, a big production house in Argentina.
The hour-long novela is leading the 6 p.m. slot for Argentina's second-ranked broadcaster, Artear-Canal 13.
As part of the deal, DMG also will work with Televisa on the international sales of Televisa's "RBD La Familia," a remake of Argentina's private school-set "Rebelde Way" (The Rebels), and "Lola," an adaptation of Argentina's orphan-nanny tale "Floricienta" (Flinderella).
DMG, which produces 800 hours a year in Argentina and Israel with independent producers like Cris Morena Group, set up a distribution unit in Buenos Aires last year, tapping a surge in demand for edgier fictions coming out of the country.
