History and background
The Company, with subsidiaries and bases in 5 different countries (Argentina, USA, Israel, Switzerland and Philippines), was founded in February 1996 in the State of Israel as Yair Dori Communications Ltd. The Company's name was changed to Dori Media Group Ltd. in November 2004.
Yair Dori Communications LTD was in fact the force that introduced telenovelas to the Israeli audience. Historically the Company has acted as a distributor of Telenovela by purchasing telenovelas produced in Latin America and selling them to broadcast channels in Israel.
Thanks to the growing interest in the telenovela genre among Israeli viewers, the company launched in April 1999 a complete channel dedicated to telenovelas - VIVA. Since then and until today, this channel is considered to be among the first 3 rated niche channels in the cable and satellite platforms in Israel and among the first 5 channels nationwide (including the FTA channels). In 2000, another telenovela channel was launched - Viva Platina, which is a Pay channel, broadcast only at weekends.
The Group started its international activities in 2002 as it purchases worldwide rights to telenovelas from Latin American based production houses and started producing content by itself and distribute it through subcontractors.
During its successful Initial Public Offering (IPO) in March 2005, Dori Media Group raised 6 Million USD offering 12% of the company to the public in the AIM – London's stock exchange. That same year, the company purchased rights to hundreds of telenovela hours. Due to the well established reputation, the group also enlarged the amount of TV hours it produces.
2006 was a significant year for the company, as the group started operating a telenovela channel in Indonesia – Televiva Vision 2, and a 24 hours toddler's channel – Baby TV. At the end of 2008 the Televiva channel was recognized as the most watched channel amongst women in the Indovision satellite platform and one of the three most watched of all its channels. In 2008 was launched the third channel in Indonesia – Ginx, a gaming channel.
Dori Media Distribution has launched its operation successfully in June 2006. Since then, Dori Media Distribution has formed bases in Argentina, Switzerland, Israel and the Philippines and in October 2007 the US base – Dori Media America. The US base is dedicated to the sales and distribution of telenovela in the US as well as supports the worldwide distribution. Worldwide sales expanded to more than 65 territories.
In October 2006, Dori Media Group purchased 51% of Dori Media Ot, subtitling, dubbing and duplication house. The technical house and laboratory of Dori Media Group enables the full support it needs for its TV channels and distribution activities.
In July 2007 Dori Media Group won the RFP for the 9 movie and series TV channels of the "HOT" cable platform in Israel which currently represents 65% of the potential subscribers in Israel. The channels were launched at the beginning of 2008. Today Dori Media Group operates 10 Movie and series TV Channels for HOT and all together has 12 TV Channels including VIVA and Viva Platina.
In November 2008 Dori Media Group launched its telenovela dedicated web 2.0 site – Novebox.com – after a very successful beta site in YouTube. The site was launched in Argentina and marketed by the first cross platform telenovela "Amanda O", which was produced by Dori Media Contenidos in 2008.
