Ella is an odd 15 year old girl. Girls her age bore her, boys don't really interest her and all in all, she prefers to be left alone. She relies on the love and support of her family and has one loyal friend, Omer, an oddball himself. Ever since she can remember, Ella always felt different, distant from the world that surrounds her with no understanding of why she is in outsider. Ella is unaware that she is actually unique, for reasons that are about to change her life forever.
When Leo, a new handsome student, arrives at her school, Ella is smitten. She falls head over heels for him, unsuspecting that he came there looking for her, the Divided One. She soon learns from Leo that she is half-vampire, half-human, and the one who is destined to end the age-old war between the two worlds. Distraught that her life was a lie, Ella runs away, unwilling to accept her true identity and calling.
Yet, Ella soon realizes that for the first time ever, her life has a meaningful purpose: she must complete the mission forced upon her in order to save the world and protect the people she loves. Her newly discovered identity draws her into the magical world of vampires, a world she had dreamt about, but was undecipherable to her, until now. She learns that she is part of an ancient civilization which has long assimilated into human society; a breed of talented and prominent people, who prefer to keep a low profile, believing that someday they will no longer be libeled as outcasts.
Together with Leo, Ella will piece the puzzle of her life and prove to everyone that she is not an underdog but a born leader. She will gradually find her place in the world, but as the Divided One, she will be faced with a heart-wrenching decision: surrender to her love for Leo the vampire or accept her growing feelings towards her human friend, Omer.
